HOOP DANCING

THE MOUNTAINS ARE MY BONES, THE RIVERS ARE MY VEINS. THE FOREST ARE MY THOUGHTS AND THE STARS ARE MY DREAMS. THE OCEAN IS MY HEART, ITS POUNDING IS MY PULSE. THE SONG OF THE EARTH WRITE THE MUSIC OF MY SOUL

Superheroes must protect life, and to do this means to share what life is about. Hoop Dancing is a statement created by an individual to express the value of life itself. A Hoop Dancer shares the movements of the eagles, bears, snakes and their wisdom, their values, loyalty, kindness, friendship, and their relationship.

The Hoops are symbolic of "the never-ending circle of life," no beginning and no end. Many tribes use the hoop in traditional healing ceremonies. The hoop shape also represents peace, wholeness, harmony, beauty, sacredness, divinity, continuity, infinity, and well-being. In its essence, the Hoop Dance is a choreographed story and a prayer. The Hoops represent the energy of a circle which returns each problem back to the responsibility of its creator so that all be restored to its place in the hoop of life.

Hoop dancing incorporates multiple creative designs, intricate body and footwork and ever-changing routines. Modern Hoop dancers present their unique variation of the Hoop Dance along with their distinct perspective of interpretation. Individual routines are presented using as few as four to as many as 50 hoops, which are used to create designs including animals, birds, deities and global symbols. A skilful Hoop Dancer is a great storyteller!

"Why we dance?
To dance is to pray.
To pray is to heal.
To heal is to give.
To give is to live.
To live is to dance."
